Season 5 premiere Tuesday at 9/8c on NBC This Is Us returns with a two-hour premiere this week, which means twice as many tears as we celebrate the Big Three's 40th birthdays. Meanwhile, Kate catches Toby straying from his regimen. We get to see young Kevin's mistreatment of Randall — poor Randall! Sounding like a pun Randall would use, "A Manny-Splendored Thing" was a mostly solid episode with a wide look into each of The Big Three. In one of the most bittersweet moments of the series, his adopted brother Kevin (Justin Hartley) rushes to the rescue and comforts a crying Randall. With a show so good, it's no wonder. You see all the bittersweet final interactions with characters and dramatic heart-string-pulling conversations about the future. The Big Three are 28 years old and the year is 2008. Kevin being the one in the blindspot, this time. Watch the clip. Less than two days prior to the airing of this episode, fans discovered how Jack died in the special Super Bowl episode. No! I really didn't want you to know that about me. Proceed with caution: major spoilers ahead. The car is a central theme, but the writers were not so committed to it that it became tiring. They decide to take the kids to dinner and explain what's going on. Ugh, Kevin. Ah, fall. While this scene may seem out of place, the writing makes it work. After all, 2008 would be a bit difficult to differentiate from 2017 on television. Jack chooses not to end his camping trip early to visit his father. Set in the '90s, preteen Kevin, Kate, and Randall take the spotlight of the episode. But for me, I'll take bright, sunny afternoons and temperatures in the low 80s any day. For personal and non-commercial use only. Kevin loses the only tangible memory he has of his father — his necklace — and struggles to get it back. But even when I visit places with a real fall, I always walk away saying, "That was it?". © 2020 TV Fanatic And they may be in other parts of the country. The temperatures are darn near perfect: often sunny and warm enough to go sleeveless in the mid-afternoon, but chilly enough at night to justify cuddling in front of a fire. Having Jack's death looming over the audience could be distracting, but the writers execute it so well that it's actually one of the best parts of the show. Watching Randall say goodbye to his 12-year-old foster daughter is a tear-inducing experience, to be sure. Summer is nice for a while, but sweat-inducing summer temps can hang on well into September, and once we’ve cleared that unpleasantness, we live under the constant specter of what we know is coming in November — gray, gloom and a lot of cold rain — all before the onslaught of ice, snow and below-freezing temperatures that often last well into April. Plus, don't get us started on the final montage that shows Jack spending his final night at home and the resulting house fire that made us never look at Crock-Pots the same way ever again. This makes it sounds like a cold, serious thriller, but the Deutschland series is stylish and humorous as well. Viewers finally got to find out exactly how Jack dies, why Kate blames herself for his death, and how the dog is somehow involved in all of this. It's the same game all over again. Kevin admits to Toby that he needs to loosen the reigns now that she's getting hitched. The episodes follow the children of Jack and Rebecca - Kevin (played by Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K Brown) - who was adopted by the family. Think about that the next time you take joy in making more work for some poor landscaper. Creator Dan Fogelman Tweeted following the news of the season renewal, saying: "Three years ago, we were live-tweeting the premiere of our TV show, hoping someone, anyone might watch...Today our friends at @nbc picked up #ThisIsUs for THREE more seasons, bringing us to six.".
