Inferno was not the surprise box-office hit that Suspiria was — it didn’t even get a wide release in the US — but the film has earned a cult following and critical reappraisal over the years. It’s the kind of thoroughly committed, out-there performance that should have turned Lamia into a gay icon. Director: Watch the competent remake if you want more overtly witchy action. Her kind-hearted cousin, the town’s beloved “good witch” and newlywed with two teenage step-kids, is running for office, but must keep her family from falling apart when their visitor uses her magic to put them—and the whole town—under her bitter spell. But Blair Witch is too good to ignore — it made the found-footage horror genre happen, and reminded us all that less is often more. Starring Omar Sy. With signs of a curse looming over her, it's clear that Cassie needs to conjure up more than a little magic to make things right again.
